舞妓の日々は、「驚き」の連続。― 朋子　すがお～22人の舞ことば～ ＃14

̶̶ 舞妓さんになった理由を教えてください。

ある雑誌で舞妓さんの特集をやってはったのを、中学に入ってすぐの時に見つけました。 その時、ほんまはあきまへんのやけど、なぜかそのページだけ破って持って帰ってきてしまったんどす。 その時に「舞妓はん」という職業を知って「私は祇園甲部の舞台に立ちたい」と思ったのがはじまりどすね。

̶̶ 舞妓さんになって驚いたことはなんですか？

毎日が「驚き」どすね。 この歳やと普通はなかなかお会いできへんような方々とお食事を御一緒させていただいたり、お酌させていただいたり。 そんなことが毎日のようにあるところに、毎日驚いています。

̶̶ 朋子さんがほっと一息ついて、「すがお」でいられるのはどんな時ですか？

お母さんのところにチロちゃんゆう柴犬がおりますねん。 そのワンちゃんとじゃれることどす。 あとは、旅行も楽しみどす。 年に二回ほど長期休暇をもろて、同期の仲間と旅行にいくんどす。 うち、同期が七人いるんどすけど、ほんまに仲が良くて、「これ以上仲のいい同期いてんのかな」ってくらい。 そんな仲間と何か月もかけていろいろと計画を立てて旅行に行く時間も楽しおす。

̶̶ 都をどりに対する意気込みをお聞かせください。

都をどりは今回で二回目なんどす。 去年は総をどりの最後に出ることになったんどすけど、練習のときに緊張し過ぎで一度幕に引っかっかってしもうて……。 今回は舞でもお茶席でも下の子がいるので、自分がお手本となって教えてあげられるように胸を張って舞台に立たせていただきます。

̶̶ 今後、どんな舞妓さんになっていきたいですか？

下の子たちのお手本になれるような憧れる先輩になりたいどす。 私もついこの間お店出しをしたところなんどすけど、今年もたくさんの子がお店出しを迎えはります。 せやから、私も気張りたいどすね。

> Please tell us the reason why you would have liked to be “MAIKO”?

When I was in a junior high school, I found an article about MAIKO in a magazine. I kept the piece of it and I always bring it with me. Since I got to know what MAIKO’s job is like, I had wanted to be MAIKO.

> When do you feel relaxed?

“My mother” (master) has a Shiba Inu dog named Chiro-chan. It is my relaxing time to play with the dog. Also I like to go trips with other MAIKO when I have vacations. There are 7 MAIKO who started training at the same time as I did. I really enjoy spending time with them. We always start to make a plan for our trip several month ago.

> What makes you surprised after becoming as MAIKO?

MAIKO’s life is surely full of surprises. Guests are definitely some kind of people I can never see as a girl around my age. It is surprising that I serve and talk to them at Ozashiki.

> Please tell us your enthusiasm for “MITAKO-ODORI”.

It is my second time to perform at the stage of MIYAKO-ODORI. Last year I was so nervous that I tripped on curtains when we did a dry run on the stage. This year I would like to perform MAI dance with confidence and I try to do my best to be a role model for “my younger sisters” (junior apprentices).

> How do you want to be “MAIKO”?

I would like to be a role model for “My younger sisters” who will make debuts this year. Actually I have just made a debut too, so I’d like to keep it up with them.
