やっぱり舞が好きやから、 舞の上手な芸舞妓になりたい。― 紫乃　すがお～22人の舞ことば～ ＃2

̶̶ 舞妓さんになった理由を教えてください。

おばあちゃんが趣味で日本舞踊を習うてはったんどす。 その影響でうちもずっと日本舞踊が好きやったんですよ。 それで、小学校6年生くらいの頃から、「いつかはお仕事にしたいなぁ」と思うようになりました。

̶̶ 今は舞妓さんになられて何年目になりますか？

中学校を卒業してすぐ舞妓になったので、今は4年目どす。 祇園には20人くらい舞妓さんがいるんどすけど、うちは上から2番目どすね。 ここまでは、あっという間でした。 気付いたら、って感じどす。 うちはもう二十歳なんどすけど、やっぱり舞妓さんは十代の仕事。 せやので、二十歳越えてるって言うと、色んな人に驚かれます。

̶̶ 紫乃さんがほっと一息ついて、「すがお」でいられるのはどんな時ですか？

夜、お仕事が終わって着物を脱いだ瞬間どすかね。 あとは、うちの出身は熊本なんどすけど、地元の方がお客さんとして来た時は知らない人でも親近感が湧いて、ほっとします。

̶̶ 京都に来てから、好きになった食べ物はありますか？

うちの地元の九州って、味が濃いんどす。 最初に京都の料理を食べた時は「味、薄いなあ」って思いました。 今は段々慣れてきたんどすけどね。それでも、やっぱり九州の味の方が馴染み深いどすね。 こないだ久しぶりに実家に帰った時も「あ、これや」って、懐かしい気持ちになりました。

̶̶ 都をどりに対する意気込みを教えてください。

今年はお囃子で「大皮」という大鼓を演奏させてもらいます。 お囃子を担当するのは初めてなんどす。 せやから、とても緊張しています。 舞はもちろんですが、お囃子もいっぱいお稽古をして頑張りたいどす。

̶̶ 今後、どんな舞妓さんになっていきたいですか？

うちは舞が好きやから、これまで舞が上手な舞妓さんを目指していたんどす。 芸妓さんになったら芸妓にしか舞わしてもらえへん難しい舞があるんどすね。それを舞うお姉さん達を見るとやっぱりカッコええなぁ、って思います。 せやから、やっぱり舞の上手な芸舞妓さんになりたいどすね。

> Please tell us the reason why you would have liked to be “MAIKO”?

I was influenced from my grandmother who learned Japanese traditional dance. Also I thought I wanted to work in a job related to these traditional dance since I was in 6th grade. It was all started to become MAIKO.

> How long have you worked as MAIKO?

4 years. I became to be MAIKO soon after my graduation from the junior high school. There are 20 ladies as MAIKO in GION now and I am already 20 years old, which is the second oldest of all. Time flies so quickly. MAIKO is supposed to be a job for teenagers so some guests are surprised at my age.

> When do you feel relaxed?

It was when I take off KIMONO after the MAIKO jobs. Also, as I am originally from Kumamoto in Kyushu, it is always nice to see guests who come from the same area. It makes me relaxed and comfortable.

> Do you have any favorite foods which you became to like after coming to Kyoto?

In my hometown, almost all foods taste strong. So at first I thought Kyoto’s taste was too weak. I am getting used to the taste and I like it now. But when I go back to Kumamoto and eat something, it still feels so right to me.

> Please tell us your enthusiasm for “MIYAKO-ODORI”.

I am going to perform ”OKAWA” (Japanese hip drum) as a part of “OHAYASHI” (traditional music) this year. I am so nervous because it is my first time to perform it. I try to practice not only MAI but also OHAYASHI so hard.

> How do you want to be as MAIKO?

I would like to be MAIKO who can dance MAI very well because I like it. When I become to be GEIKO (senior apprentices of MAIKO), I will perform more difficult dances of MAI which are allowed to perform only for GEIKO. They look so cool when I watch them performing these kinds of MAI. So I want to be MAIKO and GEIKO who are good at MAI.
